Bamboo Wall

Bamboo Wall - Detailed Drawing
A house is an environmental filter
Kengo Kuma designed the house with a traditional Japanese influence in mind. his aim was to restore the forgotten naturalist approach by creating a house developed mostly from bamboo. The houses wall created by the bamboo is spaced at different intervals around the house this frames the outside environment in different instances, 'bring the connection of outside in'. The intervals between the bamboo also acts as a light filter causing a gentle array of lighting falling on the inside of the house. It is easily understood that Kuma has incorporated environmental filters all through his design.

Tea Ceremony Focal Point

A house is a container of human activity:
Kuma's bamboo house design shows intent of its human users because he built the house with a specific focus on the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. the houses walls only break at a specific room, the tea ceremonial room. this creates a focal point in the house an shows an emphasis on the human activity which is the tea ceremony.

A House is a delightful experience:
I believe a delightful experience is not purely aesthetic, personally I fine delight in details and novelty. I find the Bamboo wall particularly delightful because it is not something you wouldn't see every day. The walls create an interesting texture and it is the tectonics of a design that can help to portray feeling and emotions. The lighting in the house is warming, the use of bamboo is interesting and the spacing between the bamboo wall is gentle, in my opinion all these things help to create an enjoyable experience with in Kuma's design.
